RS Couriers :
The website is extremely easy to use and a great way of determining vehicles private mileage on a daily basis while providing easy to use real-time tracking.
Mrs Brown and her Dogs :
A little over a year ago out two dogs chased a stag in Exmoor Forest. One of the dogs returned thirty minutes later but the other was never seen again despite extensive searches and press coverage and despite the fact that she was micro-chipped.
This being an experience we were determined not to repeat, I started researching on the internet into ways of tracking the dogs. We tried a radio tracking system but found that we lost the signal very easily. The GPS systems we looked at were either too bulky to be worn on a harness, or had poor reviews of their reliability. Some also involved monthly fees.
I eventually found the ideal system in the Twig Discovery and Twig Locator. The Discover is a mobile phone with a built in satnav. The Locator, the unit carried by the dog is a GPS receiver that weighs only 100g and is the size of a matchbox.
The system couldn’t be simpler. I press the appropriate buttons on the Discovery and within thirty seconds I have the dog’s position displayed on a map together with details of co-ordinates, direction of travel and speed. Pressing another button gives me direction to the dog’s position in the same way as any other satnav system.
One thing to be aware of is that this is not a continuous tracking system so the dog’s position needs to be updated by repeated calls to the Locator. However, a week of intensive testing cost less than £6 for all calls and there are no monthly fees.
Another thing to note is that the routing directions are only accurate on the road system. When off road the dog would need to be tracked using co-ordinates and a map. |
